UTICA, N.Y. — Authorities have confirmed that the death of a SUNY Polytechnic Institute student at Oriskany Residence Hall is being investigated as a suicide, according to the New York State Police.

The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, October 30, when university officials were notified of an emergency involving a student inside the residence hall. State and university police immediately responded to the scene.

In a statement, SUNY Poly officials described the situation as an isolated incident and assured the campus community that there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.

Counseling and mental health services have been made available to students, faculty, and staff affected by the loss.

The New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, the student’s name has not been released at this time.
